Ceramic Netilat Yadayim cup designed for the ritual washing of the hands, combining everyday gesture with symbolic intention.
Symbol & Tradition
Netilat Yadayim refers to the ritual pouring of water over the hands, performed upon waking and before eating bread.
Its origin is rooted in both Jewish law and ancient Temple practice.
Awakening into consciousness : according to Kabbalah, during sleep the soul partially ascends to higher realms. Upon waking, the return of the soul is a moment of renewal. The water removes the subtle residue of night and marks a threshold.
Elevation of action : by pouring water and lifting the hands, we acknowledge that our actions can be channels of blessing, rather than merely functional movements. Our hands express our inner world through outward activity. They build, touch, hold, give, receive.
Balance of giving and holding : in kabbalistic symbolism : the right hand represents Hesed - compassion, generosity, expansion; the left hand represents Gevurah - boundaries, discernment, structure. Through Netilat Yadayim, these two forces are brought into harmony. We learn to act with heart and clarity, warmth and intention.
